The Benefits of Prenatal Pilates

Empowering Maternity through Pilates

I'm Stéphanie, founder of Time2Pilates. During my first pregnancy, I quickly felt a real lack of physical activity in Luxembourg. The only classes I found that time were birth preparing courses, yoga and meditation. This wasn't dynamic enough for me and didn't give me the energy boost I needed.

Swimming was another option, but it still wasn't enough. There didn't seem to be many options available for pregnant women. Unfortunately, I didn't know about Pilates on a machine at the time, as it was exactly what I was looking for: an activity suitable for pregnant women that allows you to continue exercising during this specific phase and is gentle and demanding at the same time. But Pilates isn't just a great way to unwind before giving birth, it's also an activity adapted to post-natal needs. Pilates can therefore be practised throughout pregnancy, and can be resumed 6 weeks after delivery with the agreement of the attending physician.

This is where my dream of offering Pilates classes to pregnant women comes from, as well as postnatal classes where babies are welcome.

  • What do I need for a live stream mat class?
During class, you may need: A mat or something soft to do your exercises A soft gymnastic ball Elastic band (or something stretchy, like a pair of tights or leggings) 2 x hand weights (2 x bottles of water/cans/jars) Good Internet connection If you don't have any props yet, you can still participate without!
  • How do I join a live stream class?
To join the class: You will receive an email with a link to the class via Zoom. You do not need to install Zoom on your device. Click on the link in the mail. Position your device where it shows you clearly and the instructor can visually correct you (if you want to be seen), and be sure you can see the instructor on the screen in a place where you don't need to keep turning your head. Use the biggest screen possible - laptops are better than phones. The best way is to cast /mirror your device to a TV. Turn audio on or wear wireless earphones. Check your audio in advance as this will be the most important to hear us clearly. Be sure you have a safe space of 2 meters by 2 meters.
  • What do I need for an Apparatus class?
Bring water and wear comfortable clothes for your workout. For hygienic reasons we ask you to wear sticky socks for a good grip on the machines or just normal socks. You can bring a towel for yourself after the workout but there is no need to use a towel on the machines as we disinfect the machines after each workout (see sanitary measures).
  • I have never done Pilates before. What course should I choose?
You can enroll in a Pilates Reformer Level 1 class if you're accustomed to exercising. We strongly recommend taking a private trial class to a reduced price so that we can discuss Pilates concepts, your goals, and ensure you have the fundamentals for a group class. Feel free to contact us via email or phone if you'd like to schedule your first private session.
