What is Pilates?

Pilates is a muscle-strengthening technique for everyone invented by Joseph Pilates. The method has more than 500 exercises combining breathing with movement that can be performed on the ground or on specialized devices.

It is one of the only gym techniques to combine the benefits of oriental methods (breath and breath control, flexibility, concentration) and Western (strength and endurance).

"After 10 sessions, you feel the difference.

After 20 sessions, you see the difference.

And after 30 sessions, you have a brand new body."

Who was Joseph Pilates?

The Pilates method takes its name from its creator, Joseph Hubertus Pilates, born in 1883 in Dusseldorf. A rickety child with asthma and acute rheumatoid arthritis, he dedicated his life to improving his own physical strength. He became passionate, very early, for the study of anatomy and movement, for martial arts, and quickly became an accomplished athlete practicing many sports through which he fashioned a perfect body.

He was convinced that every human being was born with a universal right, the right to remain healthy. Based on this conviction, he developed a complete repertoire of more than 500 specific movements to help "rejuvenate" and soften the spine and joints.

What are the benefits?

  • Correct and improve posture by firming and toning the muscles of the abdomen, buttocks, pelvis and back to help maintain the entire body properly;

  • Relax stiff muscle groups (necks, shoulders, back), tone loose muscle groups (abdominals, glutes) to balance the muscles and get rid of tension;

  • Eliminate stress with a breathing technique that provides a feeling of well-being with each session;

  • Develop awareness of how well your body works in order to optimize the efficiency of your movements;

  • Improve coordination;

  • Prevent injuries caused by poor posture (back strain, etc.)...

A beautiful posture, a refined silhouette, a more supple and stronger body, muscular uniformly: this is the goal of the Pilates method!
